| True West Magazine has selected music
artist Ken Overcast’s “Montana Cowboy” for its Best Cowboy Music CD award. The honor for the Chinook rancher was part of the 50-year-old magazine’s second annual “Best of the West” selections. Other honorees in the September magazine include Tom Selleck, Johnny Cash, Maureen O’Hara and Marty Robins. “Ken’s music represents the true essence of the American cowboy lifestyle,” said Meghan Saar, assistant editor of the True West Magazine, in a press release about the award. “His no-nonsense style is genuine and harkens back to the honesty and sincerity of classic country music artists – qualities that are greatly missed in today’s music.” Overcast has recorded seven albums with Nashville producer Russ Ragsdale. He is known in country music for his story-telling style and traditional guitar, often drawing comparisons to such classic artists as Gene Autry and Will Rogers.

“It’s a real honor to be recognized
by True West Magazine,” Overcast said. “It gives me great pride to
be categorized with true American classic artists like Johnny Cash and Marty
Robbins.” In addition to his recording career, Overcast is producer and host of the nationally syndicated radio program “The Cowboy Show.” The program features music and interviews with various country artists as well as storytelling by Overcast and others. “The Cowboy Show” is aired on 30 stations across the nation. Overcast is also a published author whose book, “Yesterday’s Yarns,” is sold nationwide. Overcast is next scheduled to perform live at the Evening Show in Durango, Colo., on Oct. 2, and at the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce’s Agriculture Appreciation Banquet in Havre on Oct. 4. In addition to the 2003 Best Cowboy Music CD Award, Overcast has received the coveted Will Rogers Award from the Academy of Western Artists. |
