The "Will Rogers Yodeler of the Year Award" for 2000 has been presented to Montana Recording artist Ken Overcast by the Academy of Western Artists at their annual awards ceremony, which was held July 11th in Fort Worth, Texas. Overcast has a long string of recordings under his belt, with his sixth CD, entitled "Montana Cowboy", having been released earlier this year.
This isn't the first time Ken has had his yodeling recognized, as he is a past "International Champion Cowboy Yodeler". He earned that title from the Western Music Association at their annual Festival in Tucson, Arizona. That is quite an accomplishment for someone who really doesn't consider himself a yodeler. "I'm just a cowboy that happens to sing a few cowboy songs," states
Overcast, "but I really have been yodelin' for a long time."
Ken has been recently selected by thewest.com, an Internet company specializing in everything pertaining to the great American West, to be their national spokesman. Tom Clancy, CEO of the Dallas based corporation stated, "Ken's profile and heritage as a real Montana cowboy fit perfectly with our mission statement to bring the best of the west to the world. One of the important things he can do for us is to advise thewest.com in maintaining its western authenticity."
With another new award in hand and a brand new corporate sponsor, Ken Overcast and his guitar have a full schedule ahead playing all over the west.
